Fireworks 500 Information
Fireworks 500 Race Week Preview
Saturday, June 30th
Recon-running at Tahoe-Reno Motorplex opens for all HDRA members – That’s right, all HDRA members, not just the racers. Here’s an opportunity for anyone with a current membership to go out and play in the dirt… Best of all – It’s absolutely FREE to HDRA members!
Only requirement is membership, your signature on the pre-run waiver and a HDRA issued wristband. Details on hours, waiver signing location and general information are posted under the FIREWORKS 500 section on this website.
In Sparks, just east of Reno, the all-day Off-Road Expo will be in full swing featuring live music and free admission. It’s a great way to kick off the entire race week.
Sunday, July 1st thru Thursday, July 5th
Pre-running at Tahoe-Reno Motorplex continues. More days to become familiar with the region’s terrain and start planning your strategy for the big Fireworks 500 on Saturday.
This is also a chance to take in the sights and learn more about this historic area. If you haven’t visited Virginia City, by all means do so. This town dates back to the late 1850’s and is home to the historic Comstock Lode, where over 35 million dollars in gold and silver was mined in just one year. Think what that would be in today’s dollars! Thus, Nevada became known as the “Silver State”.
Beautiful Lake Tahoe is only a short distance from Reno, and a drive around the lake is a rewarding way to spend a day. Watch for more “area things to do” in the coming weeks to lead up to the race.
Wednesday, July 4th
The 4th and fireworks are an American tradition and Reno is planning a great celebration of this tradition. Everyone is invited to view this free spectacular in the evening. Locals tell us Virginia City has a day-long killer celebration on the 4th as well, with parade and a fireworks show that is said to be the best in northern Nevada.
Early evening features a cocktail party from 6 to 8:30 pm at the Off-Road Hall of Fame in Reno. A party atmosphere surrounded by off-road history and memorabilia. It’s a great opportunity to reminisce and talk about your favorite sport and the people who created it.
Thursday, July 5th
Qualifying Day – The serious business of racing gets underway at the Tahoe-Reno Motorplex. Event times, classes and general information will be posted as race week approaches.
Thursday evening will see the Monster Energy party (invitation only) at the Eldorado Hotel Casino, and a HDRA party at the Silver Legacy Hotel Casino.
Friday, July 6th
Contingency and Tech Day – All this action will take place in Downtown Reno, under the famous” Biggest Little City“ arch. A full day of events will include incredible performances by the Monster Freestyle MX Team featuring riders from the X-Games and the Ninja Stunt Team.
Live entertainment will be performing on the Monster Energy stage throughout the day compliments of the Eldorado Reno and Silver Legacy Reno Hotels.
During tech, racecars will be on display throughout the day and a huge throng of spectators is being anticipated. Here’s the opportunity for racers and teams to meet the fans. Bring your promo pix and Sharpies for autographs!
Contingency Row will showcase products from many of off-road’s top companies. A great time to view the latest products and talk to the factory guys and gals. Commemorative Fireworks 500 event apparel will be available.
Saturday, July 7th – FIREWORKS 500 RACE DAY!
Race start is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 am. Total distance is 500 miles – the longest off-road race in the United States! Complete details will be posted as event date approaches.
