RENO, Nev.—Reno, Nev. entrepreneur Roger Norman is a visionary and the owner of the Reno-based High Desert Racing Association is taking another major step forward Saturday as his two-year old racing organization presents two major desert races at his Tahoe Reno Motorplex, 19 miles east of downtown Reno at exit 32 (USA Parkway) of Interstate-80.
Running at overlapping times, with viewing from the same spectator area, will be the Eldorado HDRA Reno 500 for cars and trucks as well as the AMA Reno Extreme for motorcycles.
After three days of festivities at the Dirt Live Off-Road Expo on Virginia Street in the heart of the ‘Biggest Little City in the World’, Saturday it’s down to serious business as this desert-racing twinbill will be held at the Tahoe Reno Motorplex as Round 3 of the HDRA Desert Series and Round eight of the AMA National Hare and Hound motorcycle series will run simultaneously.
DUAL DETAILS
Over 60 entries from 13 U.S. States as well as Columbia, Mexico and New Zealand are entered in 15 classes for race cars and race trucks will be competing in the 2nd Annual Eldorado HDRA Reno 500 which will start at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The course is approximately 82 miles long and the faster classes will race five laps and the others will go four laps. It will be open for 18 hours in the elapsed-time race, but the fastest vehicles are expected to finish in about 10 hours.  Included in the field are 11 Trophy Trucks, the marquee racing division in the sport for high-tech, 850-horsepower unlimited production trucks.
With nearly 100 riders expected, also at the Tahoe Reno Motorplex starting at Noon Saturday will be motorcycles battling in the Reno Extreme, a six-hour endurance race. With solo riders only in the AMA Hare and Hound, their course is 20 miles long and the Pros will cover three laps and the others two or one lap.
While the race courses will be different, the spectator area on a elevated plateau overlooking start/finish with sight lines of more than 12 miles of the race course will make viewing safe and among the best in all of desert racing.
The area will also have food and beverage vendors, a beer garden with Monster Energy drink specials, Monster Energy Girls and three performances by the Monster Energy LivFast Freestyle motorcycle stunt team which is based in Sparks, Nev. One-price admission to enjoy both races and the stunt shows is $10 per person. Children, under 12 years of age will be $5 each.
RV and camping facilities are also available at the Tahoe Reno Motorplex. Fee is $20 per night, per camp site with designated viewing areas.
Live coverage and vehicle tracking of the cars and trucks in the event will air on the Internet at www.hdrarace.com.
